Reinhard F. Hüttl elected as Euro-CASE President

Today, the Euro-CASE Board elected Reinhard F. Hüttl as new President of Euro-CASE, the European Council of Academies of Applied Sciences, Technologies and Engineering. acatech President Reinhard F. Hüttl succeeds the Swede Lena Treschow Torell. Also during the board meeting in Munich  the new Euro-CASE Energy Platform was launched that combines the member academies’ expertise in the field of science and business and prepares science-based policy recommendations for policy makers.


Under the newly elected President Reinhard F. Hüttl Euro-CASE will put a stronger focus on energy policy. Led by acatech and the National Academy of Technologies of France, the Energy Platform will provide the European Commission with advice on transnational energy policy issues.

The Energy Platform represents a European complement to the interdisciplinary German Science Academies' Project “Energy Systems of the Future” (ESYS). ESYS is a joint initiative by acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Union of the German Academies of Sciences in which scientists develop policy options for achieving the energy transition (“Energiewende”) in Germany.

The Euro-CASE Innovation Platform will continue its work under the new president. Among others, the experts of the Platform will accompany the implementation of the EU Research Framework Programme Horizon 2020.
