Description
There are numerous different research initiatives in the fields of nanotechnology and nanoelectronics in Germany. These efforts are primarily undertaken by physical and chemical research institutes and focus mainly on investigating physical principles, materials and building block concepts. The work in these fields is still at the fundamental level. Research results have yet to lead to nanoelectronic products. However, the availability and utilisation of nanoelectronic research, development and production potentials is necessary to ensure the continued strong performance of the German information and communications industry.
The first phase of the project is an investigative workshop in which the potential of nanoelectronic developments are described and assessed. What opportunities do nanoelectronics offer with respect to efficiency improvements and the development of new technologies? What is the current state of research and what are the research requirements in science and industry? What are the implications for action and what recommendations can be made for policy makers, industry and science?
